West Yorkshire Mum To Trek The Great Wall Of China

A West Yorkshire Mum and Director of Bradford based business vIT4u, Emma Lewis, is taking part in a gruelling challenge this May.  She is undertaking a 5 day trek of the Great Wall of China to raise funds for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust.

The five-day trek will see Emma walk along the magnificent structure over watchtowers, mountains, historic battlements and conquer the 1,000 steps up to the wall at Mutianyu, culminating with the ascent of the ‘Heavenly Ladder’. Her final mission will be to help repair part of the wall at Badaling placing her own brick to help with the reconstruction.

Emma is a  ‘thirty something’ West Yorkshire Mum of two, who has overcome two hip arthroscopies and has a passion to get kids, including her own, out into the countryside and get fitter as a family.  Her ultimate dream was to be fit enough to trek the Great Wall of China, a dream that at times seemed unrealistic.

As part of Emma’s training, she has been undertaking various walks usually in the Yorkshire regions and with the kids in tow.  Although she’s been on an intensive physiotherapy programme, Emma has has battled on with a huge amount of determination.

The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust  is a charity close to Emma’s heart and the charity of choice for vIT4u.   “The support of the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust has been amazing so any money we can raise to help them continue their great work and awareness will be wonderful.  I’m so excited about taking part in this amazing challenge!” said Emma.

Ectopic Pregnancy is a common, life threatening condition that is the leading cause of death in early pregnancy. It affects 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and women who suffer have to face the physical trauma of major invasive treatment, their own mortality, the impact on their future fertility and the sad loss of losing their baby all very quickly.

Emma’s Just Giving page has reached 50% of it’s target so far.

If you would like to follow Emma’s journey, her blog, hip2trek.co.uk gives a great insight into her training, challenges and progress.  She will also be blogging about the Great Wall of China Trek when the time comes.
