Shipley MP Philip Davies will speak to Bradford Property Forum on Wed 5 April.
Mr Davies has agreed to speak after being approached by West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce. He will speak about his views on Bradford’s Local Plan, the Core Strategy.
Never afraid to speak his mind, the MP has upset many businesses in the property sector over his eleventh hour opposition to the Plan last October, as it was due to be approved by the Council. It had already been given the go-ahead by a government planning inspector, although concerns had been raised due to the inclusion in the document of some green belt land being allocated for housing development.
The meeting looks set to be a lively affair, with confirmation of the event format and other speakers to be confirmed nearer the time.
A spokesman for the Chamber said:
“We understand that Philip feels he is backing his constituents, who object to development happening on the green belt, but many businesses have questioned the timing of his request for the planning minister to intervene, when the Strategy has been years in the making, with several opportunities to make representations on their behalf. We thought that this would be a good opportunity for the two sides to clarify their positions. Philip’s a good friend of the Chamber – he spoke twice last year at our events. We know that he’ll put up a robust defence of his actions.”
