Rate reform call ahead of Autumn Statement

Bradford Chamber is backing the call from the national Chamber of Commerce body for a radical reform of business rates in the Autumn Statement next week.

The British Chambers of Commerce, earlier this month, urged the Chancellor to review the current system, beginning with a two-year freeze, when he stands up in Parliament on 5 December. Although the call is not new (Chambers have, at various times over the last few years, called for a reform), the argument still stands that the current system causes additional costs to business wherever we are in the economic cycle, so aggravating already uncertain cashflow. Up-rating rates in line with inflation is therefore damaging business, and undermining the pro-business rhetoric spouted by the Government
