Public space alcohol ban proposed

A Council consultation is underway on whether to get tough on street drinkers and anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

If approved, offenders would get a fixed penalty notice of £100 or fined up to £2,000 if refusing to hand over alcohol or legal highs.  The rules would be enforced by council wardens and police community support officers.

City Park and Rawson Road are cited as particular problem areas, although Little Germany, Forster Square Retail Park and the university area would all be included if the move goes ahead.

Businesses and other are now being encouraged to feed their views into the consultation by going online here before 20 June.

Businesses can also contact us direct if they have views on this.

Premises with an alcohol licence would be unaffected.
