Last chances to enter community awards

There is just a few days now to nominate your local hero for a top tenant and resident award.

Each year, the Gerry Pickersgill Awards celebrate the fantastic contribution of local heroes’ right across the district.

The awards are run in a partnership between Incommunities and Bradford District Federation of Tenants and Residents and made in memory of a popular housing manager who died in 2000.

This year, there are five prize categories highlighting those special volunteers – young and old – who go the extra mile to make a difference in their communities.

These are:

best neighbour – recognising someone in their neighbourhood that goes above and beyond

best social event organiser – honouring that special person who really enjoys running local events that bring people together

best young volunteer – celebrating someone who is 25 years and under that dedicates their time to helping others.

best environmental project – recognising an individual or group that is committed to making the environment better for others – such as by setting up a gardening club.

best community centre/social room – celebrating a special community centre or facility that provides lots of activities and is a popular meeting place for residents.

Each category will have one winner and from these the overall Gerry Pickersgill Award winner will be decided.

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group Chief Executive, said: “Every year, the Gerry Pickersgill Awards celebrate those special people and groups who give countless hours to improving other people’s lives.

“So hurry, there are just a few days left to make your nomination for your local hero and be a part of these great awards.”

Alex Brown, from the District Federation, said: “There are just a few days left to send in your nominations recognising those individuals and groups who you think are extra special and make a difference in their communities.

“Why not make the person or club you know feel special by nominating them for this fabulous local award?”
