Housing leader in charity call to businesses

Incommunities’ Group Chief Executive, Geraldine Howley, is calling on local businesses to join her on her fundraising journey to help young people.

In June, Geraldine became the Chartered Institute of Housing’s new President and chose the Prince’s Trust as her nominated charity during her year in office.

The Prince’s Trust work with young people aged 13 to 30 to turn lives around. This year, they will have supported nearly 60,000 people and next year the charity celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Her fundraising got off to a great start when Geraldine and colleagues – Adrienne Reid and Greg Robinson – took the plunge in Lake Windermere as part of the Great North Swim and raised over £2,800. She was joined by Judy Waugh from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).

Incommunities’ finance officer Jonah Maina raised hundreds more pounds by completing the Great North Run in September.

Elsewhere, housing staff from South Liverpool Housing Group took on the ‘tough mudder’ challenge raising over £1,600 for the Prince’s Trust. More funds have been raised by the CIH including a recent donation made at the CIH Scotland Excellence Awards.

So far, over £15,000 has been raised for Geraldine’s presidential charity but now she is throwing down the challenge to business in the area to get behind the cause and help change lives.

Geraldine said: “I have received fantastic support from the housing sector right across the UK.

“As a proud Bradfordian I would love to see local companies join me in fundraising for this youth charity.

“Almost one million young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. The Prince’s Trust are all about changing this, achieving positive outcomes and inspiring lives.”

Plans are already been drawn up for a charity football five-a-side tournament in Bradford and sponsored walk by Leeds Liverpool Canal in early 2016.
