Former nightclub site for redevelopment

An area of Bradford city centre is to get a revamp if a local developer has his way.

The former Gasworks/Castaways nightclub on Great Horton Road, to the rear of the former Odeon building is the subject of a planning application.  Overland Developments wants to convert the site into student accommodation with other amenities such as shops and a café.

A previous application to develop there was rejected on the basis of the height of the scheme but that will be avoided this time around.  The area is popular with students and drinkers, and its proximity to the university and college means it has the capacity to be a thriving area once again.  A decision is expected in late July which, if approved, could lead to a ten-storey, £7 million development of 45 flats with 190 bedrooms.
