The Broadway took delivery of a 21 man dragon boat this morning, as the shopping centre joins the rest of the city in its excitement for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival.
The festival takes place at Roberts Park between Friday 5th and Sunday 7th May, with the boat being on display in the malls outside Debenhams before then.
Shoppers will be able to take a closer look at the huge dragon boat before teams from across the city and wider area attempt to row first across the finish line when the festival kicks off.
The Broadway is a sponsor of the Dragon Boat Festival, which is funded entirely by donations and sponsorship, and will raise much-needed funds for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Charity, Young Minds.
Young Minds ensures that Bradford’s children, young people and their parents are aware of and have access to mental health services, and helps them to secure the services required to meet their individual needs.
General manager of The Broadway, Ian Ward, says: ‘The Dragon Boat Festival has captured the imagination and the good will of people right across Bradford. It’s not only a huge event and great weekend of fun and fitness for people in the city, but it’s an amazing fundraiser and something we are proud to support.
‘The huge dragon boats really are a spectacle, and we’re sure our shoppers will be thrilled to get a close look while it sits on the mall.’
