Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day at Bradford’s Kirkgate Shopping as it prepares to celebrate the weddings of two staff couples who met there.
Two of the centre’s security staff are currently swapping wedding tips as they plan for almost identical weddings at Bradford’s Great Victoria Hotel. The first Kirkgate couple to wed on 7 October is security officer, Spencer Harbron (52) and Zuuluu sales assistant, Margaret Shabanay (62) who have worked at the retail destination for a combined 12 years.
Spencer said: “I fell for Margaret in 2015 when a colleague set us up and we swapped numbers, we got on so well and the rest is history. The centre has been very supportive of our relationship and I’m really looking forward to inviting the Kirkgate clan out for my stag do in Huddersfield!”
The second of Kirkgate’s love stories is between Bradford-born, security officer Ashley Sykes (28) and Warren James sales assistant, Beccy Connor (30) who will marry on 10 May 2018 on their eighth anniversary.
Ashley said: “The centre has been brilliant about my relationship with Beccy and we can’t wait to celebrate with them on the big day. We have almost everything booked from the cars to the bridesmaid dresses, there’s just the suits to sort. We booked the Great Victoria Hotel for the wedding and the day after, we found out Spencer and Margaret had booked it too – we’re even having a similar colour scheme.
“I’ve worked with Spencer for the past three years and it’s a good laugh to be going through this together.”
Kirkgate Shopping centre manager, Catherine Riley, said: “It’s a delightful start to the year for the centre. I’m so pleased to see the joy and happiness working at Kirkgate Shopping has brought to its employees – they’ve even fallen in love. Our very own cupid has worked his magic this Valentine’s Day and I’m looking forward to celebrating the two marriages.”
