Bradford College Shortlisted for TES FE Awards 2015

life-sciences-awards smBradford College has been shortlisted for two prestigious TES FE Awards for ‘Employer Engagement’ and ‘Outstanding Contribution to a Subject or Vocational Area’.

The TES FE Awards celebrate and reward the dedication and expertise of the people and teams who continue to make a significant contribution to improving the skill levels of young people and adult learners.

Bradford College’s Vocational Science Department has been shortlisted for its work on ‘Employer Engagement’ and the Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Department for its Outstanding Contribution to a Subject or Vocational Area.

Working closely with City Training Services (CTS) and Pharmacy Development Unit (PDU) Bradford College’s Vocational Science Department has provides intermediate and advanced apprenticeships in Health, Covering Pharmacy Services, Dental Nursing and Optical Retailing.

It has successfully grown the department and its offer to students and employers over the last ten years and now has more than 400 learners on its training programmes at any one time.

The department works with over 200 employers from across the country including Yorkshire and Humber and is also the preferred provider for Pharmacy and Dental for the NHS in Yorkshire and Humber.

Gail Hall, Vocational Science Training Manager said: “Just to be shortlisted in these prestigious awards is a great achievement for the department and the College. It’s a major recognition for our service to employers as well as our hard work with all our learners.”

Kathryn Oldale, Principal of Bradford College will join Hayley Lomas, Programme Manager for Hospitality and Travel and members of the Vocational Science Department at the awards ceremony being held in at the at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. Comedian, novelist and TV presenter David Baddiel has been announced as the host of the TES FE Awards 2015.

The Hospitality and Travel Department, led be Hayley Lomas has been noted for its strong links with industry giving students outstanding work experience opportunities.  Industry experience is put into practice by students working in the College restaurants.

Hayley Lomas commenting on being shortlisted for the award said: “We have put a lot of work into making sure our students get the experience they need through our college restaurant and to have that work recognised is absolutely fantastic.

“We have a dedicated team of staff who work incredibly hard to ensure each and every learner gets the opportunity to reach their full potential in a professional, nurturing and caring environment.”
