Family Business United is delighted to announce that Bagnalls, the nationwide painting and decorating business from Shipley in Yorkshire have taken the top prize at the prestigious Family Business of the Year Awards 2016.
Bagnalls were crowned not only Yorkshire Regional Winners at the Family Business Awards but also UK Supreme Champions, 2016.
As Paul Andrews, Founder and Managing Director of Family Business United (‘FBU’) explains, “We were delighted to pull together such a vibrant bunch of family businesses for the 2016 awards, some that have succeeded for numerous generations and continue to thrive, and others that are relatively young but have great values at the heart of what they do.”
“Bagnalls are a fantastic family firm dating back to 1875 that ticked all the right boxes for the judges. Their core values permeate the entire operation and they have continually invested in all aspects of the business to create the family firm that it is today, a market leader in their field, respectful of their heritage and building solid foundations for the future.”
“They represent a truly great British family firm and truly deserve all the plaudits that winning this award brings. Not only did they win the overall title, but were crowned Yorkshire Family Business of the Year 2016 too.”
Stephen Bagnall, Managing Director of Bagnalls added “It is an honour to be the head of a family firm that employs so many great people across all roles, divisions and areas of the UK. These awards are a fitting accolade which recognise the dedication, commitment and loyalty of our people. We are all very proud of our heritage and delighted to have been voted the Supreme Champions in the 2016 Family Business of the Year Awards.”
Penny Lovell, Head of Private Clients at Close Brothers Asset Management, one of the judges and the sponsor of the award added, “It is a privilege to support these awards and to find out more about the fantastic family firms that are the backbone of the UK economy. Selecting an overall winner is never an easy task and this year was no exception, but with Bagnalls there is a clear essence of being a family business at their core which really makes them stand out.”
“Their values are embraced by every employee, they are mindful of the past but prepared for the future, actively seek and encourage family involvement in the business, demonstrate strong leadership and are proud of their roots but looking to the future as custodians of the business for future generations.”
“This is a remarkable family firm and a deserved winner of the title, and clearly a great ambassador for the family business sector in the UK too.”
Previous winners of the award include Potter Logistics, WTA Group and JW Lees Brewery so Bagnalls are following in the footsteps of some incredible family firms.
