A business built on lifting others has been given a big lift itself by winning three of the 10 awards at the 2016 Keighley Business Awards, including the coveted Business of the Year title.
“We’re absolutely over the moon to be given such fantastic recognition in the community which is our home,” said Dave Belmont, company secretary of Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts.
“Although we’re now a multinational company with almost two-thirds of our turnover from exports, we remain strongly committed to the Keighley area which has supported and sustained our growth over the past 20 years and continues to do so. This is a great place to do business and we’re honoured to be recognised as one of Keighley’s great businesses.”
Held at Keighley’s Victoria Hall and compered by BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration, the black tie event saw Acorn Stairlifts win the Success Through Innovation and Diversification Award, and the Large Business of the Year Award. It was also Highly Commended in the Manufacturing Business of the Year category before being crowned overall Business of the Year as the climax to the evening.
“There were some fantastic businesses represented at this year’s awards and we were honoured to be in such good company,” added Acorn’s Dave Belmont.
“Our congratulations go to all the award winners and Highly Commended runners-up, especially Keighley-based biomass boiler specialists Byworth Boilers who pipped us to the post in the Manufacturing Business category. It was a great night and really highlighted the strength and breadth of businesses across the Keighley district.”
Now in its fourth year, the awards night was again attended by Bradford Council leader Coun. Susan Hinchcliffe, who told the audience: “I’ve been to every Keighley Business Awards since their inception and they’ve all been wonderful to behold. It’s great to see businesses in Keighley exporting across the world, innovating and being successful during some very difficult economic times.”
