Skipton firms get fund-raising off to a tee!

In what has become somewhat of a tradition between AWB Charlesworth (Solicitors based in Skipton, Keighley, Bingley and Bradford) and Pearson and Associates (Accountants Based in Skipton), Friday 24th June 2016 again saw teams of local businessmen teeing off to raise money at their Martin House Charity Golf Event.

The (now 3rd) annual event started on a rather grey Friday morning with an early warm up bacon butty and hot drink. Eleven teams in total gathered in advance of the 18 hole game, preparation for which included an attempt at ‘beat the pro’ and a competition for the straightest shot- all in aid of raising money for Martin House Hospice.

  1. Clarke Landscaping emerged triumphant and clear winners on the day- not to mention numerous prize winners from the charity raffle throughout the evening. The following local businesses generously donated raffle prizes: Devonshire Arms, Bradford City FC, Le Bistro, Keelham Farm Hamper, Kempadoo Miller, Chocolates and Truffle, The Grove Bookshop, Keighley Golf Club, Skipton Music, Woodnook Caravan Park, Cobble and Clay, Pennine Cycles, Badgequo, Timothy Taylors, Bluefin Insurance and Rolands.

In addition to raffle prize donations, many local businesses kindly volunteered to ‘sponsor a golf hole’ – these included: Ashberry, Verner Wheelock, Adams Tebb, Eximius Properties, Bluefin, Craven Energies, Class One, Dragons Den, Steve Woodhead, Bulloughs Cleaning, Bizzie Lizzies, LSI and Brook Taverner.

The day would not have been a success without the generosity and contribution of the local teams of players and the hospitality shown by Keighley Golf Club. In total the event raised over £2,000 for Martin House.

John Haigh of Martin House Hospice joined AWB Charlesworth and Pearson and Associates on the evening. He said: “It was a real delight to be invited to join the 2016 Golf Day – now a regular date in my diary – and to witness first hand another successful day both on the course and off it. The ongoing support of Charlesworth and Pearsons as organisers, and the many business who fielded teams, makes a very real difference to our ability to care for and support more than 500 local Yorkshire children with life limiting illnesses, and their families, each year. Knowing that events like these continue to be driven by our excellent corporate supporters is massively motivating for everyone at Martin House, and we thank all those involved”.

Liam O’Neill, Partner at AWB Charlesworth said; We’re delighted that our third annual golf day hosted jointly with our friends from Pearson & Associates has been another success. Martin House is a wonderful charity and I’m pleased that we can help raise awareness and much needed funds for them”.

Paul Mason, from Pearson and Associates commented: “Partnering with AWB Charlesworth for the third year to host our charity golf day is a most enjoyable experience. I always struggle when I listen to the talk from John Haigh of Martin House- the stories he tells puts everything in to perspective. Every year, raising money for Martin House Hospice is very special, and we look forward to building a bigger and better event and raising more money for Martin House Hospice in 2017.”
