A football club in the West Riding County Amateur League with a long and illustrious history is aiming to go up in the world with the backing of its new sponsor, Acorn Stairlifts.
Steeton AFC begin the new season with fresh ambition and a new kit bearing the logo of the stairlifts giant, which has its factory and head offices on Steeton’s Millennium Business Park. It is just a stone’s throw from the Doris Wells Memorial Field, where Steeton AFC – known as the Chevrons – play their home games.
Founded in 1905, the club fields two senior teams as well as an under-18s squad to nurture new talent and feed into the senior teams. Acorn Stairlifts, which employs around 450 people at its Steeton HQ, has signed up as the club’s main sponsor for the next two seasons.
The company’s logo will feature on both the first team and reserve team matchday kits and warm-up tops. In addition, the club will receive a percentage of sales income generated by customers who contact Acorn using a special free phone number which will feature on promotional material at the club and in matchday programmes. In effect the club will earn a commission on sales generated via that exclusive number, which is 0800 016 9424.
Welcoming the new sponsorship deal, Steeton AFC’s first team manager Roy Mason said: “This new sponsorship, together with any additional sales commissions, will give the club some financial security for the next two seasons, which will allow us to focus 100% on our performance on the pitch. We’re delighted to join forces with a successful multi-national company located right on our doorstep.”
Dave Belmont, Company Secretary at Acorn Stairlifts and a keen football fan, said: “Despite being a multinational company exporting to more than 80 countries, our roots are still firmly here in Steeton and we’re delighted to be supporting our local football club. We wish them every success in the coming season and urge everyone in the area to go along to Steeton’s matches and cheer on the Chevrons.”
The club is also on the lookout for new talent, both for its senior teams and 16 and 17-year-olds for its junior squad. Anyone interested in trying out can go along to training on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm at University Academy Keighley (formerly Greenhead High School), in Utley, or for more information email Roy Mason on firstname.lastname@example.org
